What life was like for the average German during WWII and how dangerous it was to speak out. There weren't any scenes of violence but it was discussed which made it more powerful)
  • I am David (Very tame, yet has the war in background, as he's traveling from a prison in Italy north to freedom)

  • Books by an author named Teresa R. Funke:
  • "Homefront Heroes" books and are novels about kids' lives on the American homefront during WWII, "Doing My Part", AND  "V for Victory" now. They are really quick reads, probably good for ages 8-11.
  • The Book Thief (younger middle school age)
  • Yellow Star by Jennifer Roy
  • The Berlin Boxing Club (for young adults) is not so much about the Holocaust as about being Jewish in Germany in the period leading up to and including Kristalnacht.
  • "Maus and Maus II" are excellent graphic novel books (cartoon like pictures where the Nazis are cats and the Jews are mice). There are lesson plans to go along with the books that can be found online. Some high schools have added these books to their reading lists. Basically they are based on a true story but written by a couple who went through the holocaust's son. It is based in Poland and very well done. Also if high school level or mature enough
